Markus Fix speaks to DMC World: Back To Mine + Meoko Mix

Markus Fix is very much an apt candidate for a Back To Mine. As someone who’s known for playing long and winding sets, he’s also someone with a reputation for throwing down house, techno and everything in-between as he goes. An incredibly talented producer, his music has found a home on some of the scene’s foremost labels, but it’s his association with Sven Vath’s Cocoon for which he’s best renowned. Equaly as comfortable producing in collaboration mode as he is on solo duty, his latest sees him make his debut on the Pleasure Zone label alongside his compatriot and fellow Frankfurt man, Dorian Paic. Here, he outlines some of his favourite Back To Mine tracks…

Rene & Angela – I´ll Be Good – Mercury

I am from the generation of game consoles, and only because of the soundtrack, Grand Theft Auto was my absolute favorite game.  In the game itself you have to complete various tasks and it is great fun when you have completed this and then the soundtrack is running.

Blind Faith – Do What You Like – Polydor

Eric Clapton, Stevie Winwood, Rick Grech and Ginger Baker sound good? Definitely yes! This was the first record I bought on my dad’s recommendation and the first time I fell in love with the 70’s. Be sure to listen to the drum solo that starts at 8:40.

Adamski – Killer – MCA Records

Probably my first, unconscious contact with house and techno. At that time, I only had a walkman and was still riding BMX bikes. Still a “killer”!

Jean Michel Jarre – Souvenir de Chine – Disques Dreyfus

I saw a concert of his in Houston on television. Everywhere it was just synthesizers and modular systems. A kilometer-long skyscraper wall was illuminated by DCA projectors, fireworks and radiant images. He played keyboard with a laser and I was really impressed. Maybe from here was where I got interested in sequencers!

N.W.A. – Findum, Fuckum and Flee – Ruthless Records

The beat is crazy and its flow is outstanding. No more words needed. Simply flowing!

Moodyman – Freeki Mutha  F cker – Live in Japan

If someone says that electronic music cannot be erotic, sexy and emotional, look and listen to this one. In my opinion one of Moody’s best tracks and videos.

Ricardo Villalobos – Waiworiano – Playhouse

When I started playing in Frankfurt bars and this was always a good appetizer from lounge to electronic music. And it still works!

Theo Parrish – Fallen Up (Carl Craig Remix) – Third Ear Recordings

This track has been following me from the beginning and I have to make sure that I do not play it too often. Absolutely timeless!

Wishmountain – Radio – Evolution

Of course I have been playing techno for a long time and this was a really good warm up track. Isn’t it? Sure! Go with the machines. They will show you the way!

Markus Fix – Yes You Know Me – Below

And last but not least, I choose this LP because I have played it many times and I am very proud of it. I never learned to play the piano but when I hear this one, I think I can do it. So far, one of my favorite records by myself.
