AMG interviews Giorgio Maulini

To welcome our newest artist Giorgio Maulini to the AMG roster, we thought we’d do something new. Here’s an exclusive interview by AMG to introduce Giorgio and get inside his musical world.

Giorgio, tell us a little bit about the motivation and concept behind your party Underground Town.
Well, Underground Town was born as an event agency to bring quality artists and make quality events. Is about sharing the culture and educating people about the non-commercial underground movement. We try to book young artists and talents that produce very good music and we think they will be the future ambassadors of our industry.

Now after 3 years of events, we are launching two vinyl-only record labels “Underground Town Records” with music from artists that have passed through our events and “Huiri Imprint” which will focus on a wider range of artists.

How do you manage to stay connected to the music scene while living in the mountains?
Hahah. I really like it up here. It’s peaceful and when I need a bit of the city chaos, I am just 2 hours away from the airport. Once someone said.. “Get lost in Nature and you will find yourself.

I work as a Ski Instructor in the winter and that contact with nature is something I need. I try to express that singularity through my music with organic and analog gear and the inspiration I find up here in the mountains.

In any case, I spend a lot of time searching, listening and studying all about the music scene.
Music and skiing are my passions and here is where they melt together.

What were some of your favorite gigs from this past year?

There have been a lot of super special gigs, but if I had to choose one, I would go with the Modernity Cruise last summer.

I had a lot of fun playing for 3 hours, mainly with vinyl, and the energy of the people and the environment was just unbelievable. I received super good feedback after that gig from my favourite artists in the scene, so I keep I really good memory of that moment.

I’m curious about your creative process. Do you have any rituals or habits?

Not really. I am very simple when it comes to creative process. Sometimes I do music when I wake up or some other at 5 am when I come back from a party. I try to be always busy and keep flowing in my work space.

I feel that sometimes what I do also depends on my mood that day. If I am sad, it will be a slower track or more chilled. If I am happy, it’s more groovy or faster. Feelings have a lot of importance in that creative process too.

When producing tracks, what tools could you not live without?

I use a lot my TR-8, Micro Korg and I couldnt live without SoundToys plugins. Hahah.
That Echo Boy is a mean machine.

Any upcoming releases we should know about?

So, I am releasing my 2nd EP with Kindisch (Get Physical  Sublabel) very soon..There a couple of remixes coming also in various labels.

Two vinyl releases with my friend Yulia Niko’s label and Fantastic Friends Recordings.
and a couple more of surprises wich I am still waiting an answer on 🙂

What do you feel is missing from the dance music community?

The dance music community is like any other in the music industry.

There are promoters that just book big artists because that makes people come to your events regardless if they still communicate the real values of electronic music culture.

Quantity does not necessarily means quality.. If you do not have 20,000 followers in your social media channels it’s harder for you to get more gigs regardless of whether your music is very good.

But, more often I see new artists that do great music and promoters that place their bets on these talents and I really like that. It makes me feel that slowly the industry is changing and the young ones are doing a great job innovating and with musical quality and are being rewarded for that.

Is there anything in particular you are working on to push yourself in new directions?

I try to do as much as I can and keep active and work all the time in the studio, making events, going out and meeting new people.

There is barely a time where I am not doing anything. I am not doing anything in particular, but trying to do a lot in every area to try to be as productive as possible.

I want to take advantage of this interview and send a huge thanks to all the Modernity/Caprices team and all the people that continuously support me and believe in my work. There is still a long way to go and that makes it even more exciting for me.

Cant wait to see what the future has prepared and where I can get keeping up the work and the good vibes.

Much love to all of you. 🙂
